Counteroffers are often made in moments of panic, which may change your standing within the company, potentially putting you on the list for future cutbacks. Your company might merely be buying time to find a replacement, leaving you pushed out shortly after accepting their counteroffer.

The reasons for your initial job search, such as personality fit, work dissatisfaction, or lack of recognition, are unlikely to change, leading to recurring discontent. Reflect on why you thought of leaving in the first place.
